About Pete Gill

Pete has been practicing yoga since 1988.  To begin with he practiced yoga to support his martial arts training - Aikido then Capoeira.  He was introduced to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in 1996 while running a Capoeira workshop and was immediately drawn to the dynamic flowing nature of the practice.  When a knee injury curtailed his capoeira practice in 2001, Ashtanga yoga became his sole focus.  In 2002 he qualified to teach yoga and began teaching professionally through the Simunye Intercultural Co-operative, setting up Yoga Shala Sheffield in 2006 as a dedicated Ashtanta Yoga space.

Pete has a special interest in using yoga to enhance and support sports performance.  He has taught yoga to Sheffield Wednesday first team and to UK Althletics Regional Development Squads at training camps.  He taught yoga to the Sheffield based members of the UK Olympics diving team, working with their coach.  He is always interested in working with athletes and sports people from a range of disciplines to enhance their current training and to give them a yoga practice they can use throughout their lives.

Pete has spent the last 5 years using traditial yoga and other physical therapies as part of his work teaching children with special educational needs.

Pete is a fully trained Full Movement Method therapist.
