About Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a beautiful, dynamic, flowing yoga practice where movement is linked to breath to create a light flowing body. A continuous sequence of yoga postures is linked by the breath. Each posture is a preparation for the next, developing the strength and balance required to move further.

Continuous, deep, even breathing is the basis of the vinyasa system. The breath feeds the movement which then becomes gentle and steady. The quality of the breath is the most important aspect of this yoga.

Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement”. By linking the movement to the breath and practicing the correct bandhas (locks), internal heat is produced. This means that muscles can stretch and lengthen gently and safely, the body becomes more flexible and toxins are expelled. The breath regulates the vinyasa and ensures efficient circulation of blood. The result is a lighter, stronger and more energetic body. Strength, stamina and sweat are unique aspects of this traditional Yoga.
